Itinerary
We pick you up and head to Hellisheiði. The adventure has already begun and before reaching the Golden Circle you will be able to discover in our vehicle great mountains, immense meadows and Hellisheiði, the great lava plateau.
The first visit of the day to the Golden Circle is to Þingvellir National Park, a historical and geographical enclave, as it is where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates meet. This union has formed a continental valley full of huge cracks and fissures that you can admire up close. Also, it was the location of the first Icelandic parliament. Curiously, a long time before it was the place of settlement of the chiefs of different tribes, a place where norms, laws and agreements between settlers were debated.
We will be right there and we will walk through the Almannagjá gorge, where you will have the best views to contemplate the landscape that unites two very different worlds.
We will pass Thingvellir and our next Golden Circle destination Haukadalur, a geothermal valley that will be home to the geyser that gives its name to all others of its kind. The Great Geysir is not very active but Strokkur is and you can see it shooting boiling water several meters high every 10 minutes.
Also, nearby we will enjoy the mud pools and hot breathers. An attraction in a very special enclave. There we will make a stop to regain strength and continue to the most special place that gives its name to the Golden Circle.
Its name is Gullfoss or golden waterfall and it has a truly spectacular size and colours. The platform on which we will be will allow us to understand its full size and strength.
And the adventure continues! After seeing the highlight of the Golden Circle we’ll head straight to the Highlands and visit the magnificent Langjökull, which in Icelandic means ‘long glacier’ and is the second largest on the island.
Finally, before finishing, we will visit Faxi and Kerið, a waterfall and a crater lake respectively, the latter being 3,000 years old. And now yes, the adventure is over and we return home with incredible photographs and unforgettable moments.
